Rainy Day Rant

Pardon me while I lash out in many directions.

So the big news this weekend is that someone will be indicted on Monday. Hours and hours of cable TV pundit panels commenting on this big news that there will be big news after the weekend - many pictures of Trump and his tweets flash on the screens next to the pundit panels as they fill lots of time - it's all so important that it bears much repetition!

The other big news is that the republicans are trying to make big news out of the uranium contracts OK'd by Hillary Clinton a few years ago, after Bubba's big pay day speech in Moscow, and some alleged payola to the Clinton Foundation. Since the pundit panels' attention span can only hold one thing as "news" at any one time, they're hoping that this knocks out the big news about the big news on Monday. Sheesh.

Meanwhile, they're cremating bodies in Puerto Rico, real body counts won't be possible, and the sweetheart contract to restore electricity might be rescinded. American citizens left to die while corrupt capitalist vultures fight for turf. No food distribution, no electricity, and no hope.

Meanwhile congress is trying to wipe out the middle class's mortgage interest deduction, wipe out the 401(k) tax deferred savings deduction, and wipe out state/local tax deductions - Why? to secretly find revenue to make up for big tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, all without having to get ones hands dirty working with the opposition party in "regular order". This is all quietly tolerated as civil behavior now, within the bounds of the normal legislative process.

Meanwhile  a sea of plastic garbage a few acres across floats outside Guatamala in the Caribbean. Nobody's sure how it got there, but it's a fact that 8 million tons of plastics enter the oceans every year. I guess this won't be real news until it washes up at Mar-a-Lago.

Meanwhile the congress just rolled back the consumer protection allowing defrauded consumers to sue banks and bring class action suits, in a windfall to the financial services industry, which had lobbied hard for this. This despite widespread majority public support for these consumer protections. Congress seems OK with letting the Equifax’s of the world defraud the American people wholesale with no accountability.

But let's keep this all in perspective - someone is going to be indicted on Monday and that's really all we need to be focusing on. These other "meanwhiles" just go on and on in the background, and are not dignified by the editors as all that important. Mind you this is but two weeks worth of "meanwhiles" I'm sure you could add your own.

Today it's raining and I can't go for my walk in the woods - that is my sanity reset. Seeing the red tail hawk, the blue jays, the river and its tide, the turning of the seasons - re-grounding me in the utter sanity of nature - it will have to wait til next weekend.

Meanwhile, I go quietly insane trying to reconcile what passes for “current events”, and how it is that I belong here.
