Message to CNN news editor: stop sending your reporter and camera crews out to tape the same lament over and over. Instead, here are a few creative suggestions for coverage. Have your reporters camp out in front of Exxon Mobil headquarters and hound their executives with interview questions. Do a five minute piece on the trend of oil company stock prices, CEO compensation, and gas prices. Have your reporters ask the Bush administration and congressional republicans if they support a windfall profts tax, and ask the question at every press conference and photo-op. Have the pundits discuss the disconnect between the economic squeeze play Americans are being subjected to and the unwillingness of our duly elected representatives to do anything about it?
Enough already with the “man at the pump” interviews lamenting high gas prices. Do people even get a sense of deja vu from this anymore? Face it folks; we as a people have fallen and can’t get up.
